Once upon a time, a person I considered exceptionally-perceptive, and with whom I spent an immense amount of time with on a day-to-day basis, said to me,
"You're not very creative, are you?"
I had always considered myself a highly creative individual and immediately realized two things:
1. He wasn't as perceptive as I thought.
2. I hadn't been exhibiting much creative behavior lately.
His false observation led me to focus my scattered subconscious energies towards the creative spectrum. Soon I was writing, dancing, and playing my violin each day. And having a great time.
Mvstermind, a super cool St. Louis-based musician, recently manifested the opportunity for us to work together on his new album, Rare Candy 2. We spent last night marrying the thumping bass of hip hop with a live string quartet soulfully channeling the wail of a haunting, Bohemian snake-charmer. The track is definitely going to be sick when he's done!
Before meeting with Mvstermind, my violin - one of my few prized possessions - needed bridge work and a tune-up.
Of course, I went to Bearden Violin Shop in North County, St. Louis.
Stepping into the quiet bungalow tucked away on the corner, everything looked exactly the same as decades before, and the owners remembered me from age 11 when they helped my parents find the perfect handcrafted instrument to invest in. As I handed over my violin full of childhood memories they helped create, it felt good to be able to support a local business.
