Here's a throwback MCA Day Roll Call post from earlier this year.
I never need a reason to keep talking about the Beastie Boys.
So I'm not going to give you one.
You can admire the below work of art instead.
Made with love by
Def Jam's founding Creative Director,
close friend of Adam Yauch,
who I call the mastermind of hip hop's visuals,
the one and only,
Cey Adams.
St. Louis, MO!
2. How are you connected to MCA DAY?
I flew from St. Louis to Brooklyn for MCA DAY 2013, had an awesome time, met some absolutely amazing people, felt the love, and knew immediately that this was something I needed to be a part of.
3. Why do you want to participate in MCA DAY?
From the first time I heard a Beastie's album at the age of 7, I was hooked. Over the years, Yauch's intricately crafted lyrics, pure silliness, unique perspective, and commitment to activism made a profound impact on my life. I want to do what I can to keep that alive and share it with others.
1. Where are you from?
4. What will you contribute to the event?
I'm super stoked to work with some incredible non-profits, charitable organizations, and like-minded individuals to provide opportunities during MCA DAY for Beastie fans to get involved and experience the joy of giving back and volunteerism. I'll also be around to help with any and all shenanigans during the event. We're going to have so much fun!
5. What is your favorite discovery that the Beasties' music introduced you to?
There are too many to list! If I had to pick one, I'd probably say Jack Kerouac.
6. What is your proudest accomplishment?
Living my life exactly the way I want to.
8. Fun Fact
I saw the Beastie Boys in Chicago during their Pageant Tour in 2004. They wanted attendees to dress up, so my grandma and I handmade a red-sequined dress, heels, and purse as my outfit. I had terrible nosebleed seats, but the Boys heard about the effort my grandma and I put into my outfit and ended up giving me Pageant Pit passes, moving me up closer than the front row!
No joke - check this link to see what what that really means.
I went from section 309 to the small white area left of STAGE and
had the time of my life all night.
9. What is your favorite Beastie album and/or lyric?
Album:
A tie between 'Hello Nasty,’ and 'Paul's Boutique'
(check out the much anticipated Paul's Boutique Visual Companion below)
Lyrics:
"You can't explain to people this type of mind frame"
